HH Roberts / Topwell 5-BGL Rigid C frame CNC Knee Mill with Machining Center style table/saddle 31" x 15" x 6" travels |
![]() |
- 6,000 RPM spindle - rigid C frame head with solid Z axis motor and ballscrew mount designed from concept for CNC, not an add on afterthought. - programmed spindle speeds - full 6" quill stroke - 38" wide saddle give great support to the table. - 13" x 42" table - 1 1/4" ballscrews on X and Y. |
This model is an updated version of our 5-BVK which was introduced in the early 1990's. The head now has a state of the art Yaskawa vector drive. It features a rigid C-frame with a larger quill than our turret style mills, and gives a longer quill stroke. The table / saddle construction is like a machining center in that the X axis ballscrew is mounted in the saddle. The saddle is 38" long, giving excellent support to the 43" long table. Furthermore, this style allows a much more rigid mounting of the Y axis ballscrew nut. This reduces table / saddle chatter significantly compared to a Bridgeport style table / saddle. The trade off is that handwheels cannot be mounted. For that reasone we strongly recommend the optional MPG ( often called an electronic handwheel) This can be seen hanging on the right hand side of the operator's console. It gives electronic manual feeds on each axis down to 1/10 thou. We do have a version of this machine, called a 5-BGLS which has a standard Bridgeport style table / saddle and has handwheels on X and Y for those situations where handwheels are needed. The vector drive head gives full programmed spindle speed control to the CNC which allows tapping with a standard floating tapping head. |
